And now, a word from...

"Salvation is from our side a choice; from the divine side it is a seizing upon, an apprehending, a conquest by the Most High God. Our accepting and willing are reactions rather than actions."

Not yet...

2 Corinthians 5:4,5 (NET)
"For we groan while we are in this tent, since we are weighed down, because we do not want to be unclothed, but clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the Spirit as a down payment."

This is another of the "already/not yet" examples we have in Scripture. It's a source of both joy and frustration for us temporary residents of the earth. Like Paul, we find ourselves wanting to be more Christlike, but often falling short of it (as seen in Romans 7:15 - "For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want – instead, I do what I hate"). Also like Paul, we have very mixed feelings about being here in the first place. We feel the strong pull of Heaven, yet we know there is more to do here before we go. How do we know? Well, generally speaking, the state of the world today makes that pretty obvious. Much work for the kingdom of God still needs doing. More specific to each of us, however, is the fact that we still draw breath. As long as we're still doing that, God hasn't finished with us yet. When He is, we'll be out of here. Now, let's not get carried away into thinking that God NEEDS us to build His kingdom. He certainly does not NEED us, for that or for anything else. He PREFERS, however, for whatever reason (it sure can't be our competence) to use us for this purpose. The work being done IN us proceeds to its eventual completion, on God's schedule. The work being done THROUGH us continues as well. All we need do is trust and obey. When we're done, we'll know. We'll be standing before the Savior.
