And now, a word from...

"Salvation is from our side a choice; from the divine side it is a seizing upon, an apprehending, a conquest by the Most High God. Our accepting and willing are reactions rather than actions."

Saved!

My wife and I spent a little time speaking with a couple visiting our church recently. They hadn't been to church in a long time, and were interested in getting started again. The man (a fisherman) told us his story about how he had been saved many years earlier, at age 16. He was working on a boat named "God's Mercy" one evening near the Carolinas. He realized he needed to go out on deck for a bit (there were no indoor "facilities"). While out there, he noticed a small boat going by. He was concerned, because the smaller boat was dangerously close to heading out into the open ocean. He tried calling out to them, and realized that they appeared to be looking for help. He heard them call out for a line, which he promptly threw out to them. It was a real struggle for him to pull the boat closer, as the tide was already beginning to pull them away. He shouted for help, but no one below decks heard him. He did manage the task, though. Once the men were rescued, he got them settled, and fed, etc. They told him that they were both preachers. One of them said, "you know, you saved us, and God can do the same for you." He accepted Christ as Lord and Savior that night. How cool is that? In spite of their situation, the two men weren't focused on themselves. They saw an opportunity to share the Gospel, and took advantage of it.
