Who's number one?

Many of us are sports fans of one type or another. Some are more casual, some are more enthusiastic, and some are practically rabid! Sports, like most things, are ok, as long as we're not going overboard about it. Some fine camaraderie is often a result of our shared enjoyment of sporting events. It can be a fun, shared activity among friends. Some folks like to host parties built around a game. A big game can really get people excited (such as the World Series, Super Bowl, and so on)! There's always a lot of "water cooler" conversation the next day at work as well. The successful quest for a championship can leave a lasting "glow," so to speak, for fans which can last for a good while afterward. It's always great to be able to say, "we're number one!"
Ok, then, what about our relationship with Jesus? If we're this cranked up about sports, shouldn't something (or in this case someone) far more important to us generate far more excitement and enthusiasm? Well, let's see...do we find ourselves chatting excitedly with friends about how good our Christian life is, or how much we enjoyed a particular service? Do we get together for spiritually uplifting activities, say a Bible study, or retreat, or class, etc.? Do we feel like celebrating when we see victory in our lives or in the lives of others close to us, such as when a friend or family mamber is saved? When we see people baptized, do our hearts spill over with joy for them as they come out of the water? The answers to questions like these tell us what's really important in our lives! God bless you, and remember, HE'S number one!
